Ajwain, also known as bishop’s weed or carom seeds is the seed of a plant popular in the south-eastern region of Asia, where it is used as a spice. Standard Ajwain Loose seeds are slightly bitter and pungent in taste. It is used more for the aroma than the taste. In India, Rajasthan produces almost 90% of the India’s total output of Ajwain. It is considered as a digestive aid and in certain regions, its powder is used to feed babies. Used as a popular Tadka in the Indian dishes, it can also be mixed with butter milk, which aids digestion. Apart from being a cure for indigestion, Ajwain is also used to cure sore throat.
